Announcement 3/17 FBLA Students You should submit homework due on Wed. 3/18 via e-mail. Items assigned on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will be posted here and students will have until the end of day on 3/25 to submit these. Click the FBLA logo to the right to see a summary of assignments and due dates for each class. Reminders Honors- Due today is Journal 2. Regular- Due today is a page length summary on Mark Twain's "The Notorious/Infamous/Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" designed to help you rewrite for your Tiered Writing Project. You are to choose which project you believe you'd like to complete and write a summary which includes pertinent information for that project.
If writing a newspaper, summarize plot events and identify historical events found in the story.
If writing a journal/diary, summarize plot events and identify the narrator/POV the text is written in as well as listing other characters.
If writing a letter of complaint, summarize plot events and evaluate the animals in the text for possible abuses.
For tomorrow read Chopin's "Story of an Hour" (p. 642) and complete the following questions on p. 646: #3 (A and B), #4 (A and B), #6 (A and B) AND #1 and #3 on p. 647. The questions will be due tomorrow, 3/18/15, at the beginning of class.

Announcement 3/12 Website Updates the class Weebly has been updated to include Journal Cover Help (under the Journal Link) and the Final Project Resources page is now complete. Also added is the "Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" short story page from Mark Twain, to be read for Monday 3/16 (ALL). Honors Fiction "Friday" has been moved to Tuesday 3/17 in appreciation of students with extracurricular responsibilities and lengthier novels. The due date for Journal 2 will remain 3/17, however. The Realism (Regionalism and Naturalism) Quiz will be tomorrow, Friday 3/13. This Quiz will focus on the Bierce, Harte, and London readings as well as information found in the American Literary Realism Power Point. Regular We will review for the Realism Quiz Thursday 3/12 and Friday 3/13, the quiz will take place Monday 3/16. Due Thursday 3/12 are Harte Questions 1-3.
ABOUT THE QUIZ The format in class was mentioned as being 10 Multiple Choice and 3 short answer with bonus questions. After lots of revision, the format is now 6 multiple choice with 3 short answer and 3 extended answers.

So, to the right I have added a link to a new web page on our class Weebly- an interactive novel list! Just click on the book cover to be taken directly to the Gutenberg listing for your text! Due today is Journal 1 (as announced 3/5) and London Questions 4-6. You can e-mail, submit on the Journal page, or print these for submission in class. Due tomorrow (3/11) will be Harte Questions 1-3 on "The Outcasts of Poker Flat."
Regular we had the great joy of beginning daily reading quizzes today! As many students are not doing readings or homework, these quizzes and the collective grade they represent have been introduced to offer some added incentive. At the end of every two weeks, each score at or above 4/5 will result in your name being entered for a chance to win a Dairy Queen Blizzard treat. Due today are "To Build a Fire" Questions 1-3. Due Thursday will be Harte Questions 1-3.

Announcement 3/5 Due to the weather, students, we've had to juggle around some dates. Honors Questions 1-3 on "To Build a Fire" are due Monday 3/9. Our first Fiction Friday will actually be Tuesday 3/10. The due date for Journal 1 is unchanged and will also be due 3/10. Our second Fiction Friday will be Friday 3/13 and the Journal 2 3/17. Regular Due Monday are questions 1-3 on Ambrose Bierce's "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge." Anyone who has not submitted a Prediction yet (Sixth period, this is all but three of you) needs to do so immediately.

Announcement 2/28 Honors English Students: Remember to look at the novel list distributed in class (found here) and get together a list of five novels that you might want to read by Monday. Do some research on these to make sure you can handle the language and writing style of the author. You need five because your first choice might be taken; sign-ups are first come, first serve on Monday 3/2 after the first bell. Homework due Monday are questions 1-6 on Bierce (found here) These can be handwritten and brought to class, submitted here, or emailed to me. Optional Work includes reading "To Build a Fire" by Jack London, found here or in your textbook, as preparation for Wednesday 3/4. Regular English Students: First period should be reviewing the Realism Power Point (download or see transcript) and getting a head start on "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" by Ambrose Bierce for Monday. Homework due Monday for sixth period would be your predictions- send them to my e-mail or upload them on this website.
